International Women’s Days With Freeva

We’ve recently had the chance to chat with Freeva a charity that provide specialist support and information to anyone affected by domestic violence, rape and sexual assault – They work closely with other agencies to ensure the right support is in place for you. We wanted to talk to discuss with them what International Women’s Day and equality meant to them.

International Women’s Day is all about unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action – whatever that looks like globally at a local level. But one thing is for sure, IWD has been occurring for well over a century – and continue’s to grow from strength to strength with all the amazing people that are supporting it.

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating, economic, social, political and cultural achievements of women around the world. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity for women everywhere.

We had the chance to chat to one of their team members this is what equality and internationals women’s day meant to them.

‘Equality for me, encompasses may aspects of universal and unconditional respect, inclusiveness and impartiality. It’s about being fair and kind towards others. Equal treatment for everyone and to not discriminate based on a persons characteristics or background. No-one is better than another; we are all important and matter.

‘For centuries women have suffered, promoted and stood up for their rights, morals and values. It’s about empowerment. It’s about equality. It’s about what’s right. IWD is a special day out of the year to recognise the struggle for women but also the amazing, empowering achievements they have made and still are striving for.’
