Dementia Centre Worcester Opportunity

The Worcester Dementia Action Alliance is looking for help to develop two Dementia Centre in Worcester.  Designed to open at least three days a week, the centres will offer friendship, support and engaging activities to people living with dementia.

The University of Worcester’s Association of Dementia Studies has received a £587,000 Big Lottery Fund grant to help set up new meeting centres across the UK. As part of the UK Meeting Centres Support Programme, the department has written a guidebook on how to set up and run a successful meeting centre.

The Worcester Dementia Action Alliance, in partnership with the University and Worcestershire County Council, is now taking the next step towards launching two dementia meeting centres in Worcester.

“The number of people in the UK living with dementia is set to rise significantly,” explains Cllr Lynn Denham, Chair of the Dementia Action Alliance.

“This is an exciting initiative for the city, which will offer people living with dementia friendship as well as interesting and engaging activities – also providing respite and support for families and carers.”Dementia Centre Worcester

The Alliance is hosting a meeting on Tuesday 10 March from 10.00am to midday at Warndon Community Centre (Shap Drive, WR4 9NX) – and would like to invite local individuals and organisations who might be able to offer specialist skills to attend.  Those with fundraising, planning or experience in financial management are particularly welcome.
